The Bible commands us not to worry. Luke 12: 22 -26 says “Then Jesus said to his disciples:Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or about your body, what you will wear. Life is more than food, the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens, they do not reap or sow, they have no storeroom or barn, yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable are you than the birds. Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? Since you cannot do this very thing, why do you worry about the rest?

The world’s view of worrying however has been made to look a lot different. The world has actually made worrying look like a responsible task. After all, not worrying about your kids, job or family just doesn’t seem like the right thing to do. God, however wants us to be in a place of trust and peace with our responsibiities. This is a not a passive sit back and do nothing approach. In fact, it’s just the opposite. His intention is for us to be on a daily walk and commune with him. When we are, he will guide us moment by moment on the steps and decisions we need to make. Thus if we have HIM, it’s all we need. Everything else will be shown or given to us when he knows we need it.

I recently went on a five-day fast and God revealed to me my issue with this. As I looked at my life, I tend to worry about everything. I worry about what people think of me, my finances, my loans (I’m a Mortgage Banker), and on and on. Worry is fear. Fear is from Satan. Thus if I am living in worry. I am not living in God. The goal for myself and my challenge to you is to take your thoughts captive (as Paul teaches us in 2 Corinthians 10:5) and leave worry behind so you can start to focus on trusting in Him. For everything!

Proverbs 3:5-6 says “Trust the Lord with all your heart, Lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him and he will make your path straight.” (My favorite verse in the Bible)

Make it great day! – No Worries!

In Mathew 6:19, Jesus states “Stop storing up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal. For many, this statement begs the question, should I not be saving for my retirement? In my opinion, this statement is not as much a call to never save again but is a warning that storing up treasures here on earth is very short-term thinking. First, I do believe the bible is clear that we are to be good stewards with our money and are called to invest it and save it wisely. (See the parable of the talents Mathew 25: 14-30). I think Jesus is trying to convey two major points here in this passage. First, you can’t take it with you. I believe that through faith in Jesus Christ we will have eternal life, thus the 100 or so years we spend here in earth is a drop in the bucket. It’s a like the blink of eye. None of us, I believe will be able to take our earthly possessions with us into heaven. If you were on a vacation in a foreign land and given expensive gifts but you were not allowed to bring anything back with you on the plane, what would you do? You may consider sending the items on ahead in the mail. This is what Jesus is trying to tell us, none of our possessions can come with us when we die, but there are ways to store up our treasures in heaven (or send things on ahead). One way to do so is to be big givers. I believe that those who give in the greatest proportion of their income are storing up for themselves treasures in heaven. The second point I think Jesus is trying to make is to not put all your hope in your treasures on earth. This last year of our economy has proven to be a tough one. Many people that thought they were set for retirement found themsleves in a very tough predicament. Several lost their retirement completely. (though various Ponzi schemes). I believe that no matter how secure you believe your retirement or future to be, it can always be lost. Putting your hope (or faith) in this, is not how you are supposed to live. Your faith (and hope) has to be focused on your eternal life in Christ.

In conclusion, don’t quit saving or stop planning for retirement, but place your hope firmly in the Lord and let him guide you path. Below is a chapter in the bible that perfectly describes this:

Psalm 49

For the director of music. Of the Sons of Korah. A psalm.

<sup id="en-NIV-14650" class="versenum">1</sup> Hear this, all you peoples;
listen, all who live in this world,

2 both low and high,

<sup id="en-NIV-14652" class="versenum">3</sup> My mouth will speak words of wisdom;

8 the ransom for a life is costly,

9 that he should live on forever

<sup id="en-NIV-14659" class="versenum">10</sup> For all can see that wise men die;

I think many people believe that a person of wealth cannot also be a person of faith. Mathew 19:24 states that “It is easier for a camel to squeeze through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to get into the kingdom of God”. In other words, it is very difficult.

For a period in my life, I believed this. I actually felt guilty as times for making money and having nice things. After a lot of soul searching, praying and asking the right questions of the right people, I have a different viewpoint of wealth and how God actually looks at it. I now believe that God is most interested in the condition our of heart. You will demonstrate the true condition of your heart by your stewardship and your giving. Mathew 6:21 says, “where your treasure is, there your heart will also be.” Meaning whatever you make your highest priority in your life is proof of what is most important to you. Money should never be the most important thing, but that doesn’t mean it’s a bad thing.

In the Mathew 25 14-30 (The Parable of the Talents) – Jesus is telling a story of 3 men and their ablilty to turn a profit for their master. God wants us to be profitable and to take care of everything He has given us. The better job we do with this, the more blessings we will receive.

We also need to be givers. The Bible says that it’s better to give than to receive. If you’ve been on either side of that, I’d say it’s true. It always makes me feel better when I’m giving than when I’m receiving. I beleive that giving is a heart and faith issue. If you understand that God owns everything and we are just managing what he gives us, it much easier to give to others. The Bible encourages us to give to the needy and the poor.

In conclusion, I beleive that being wealthy and being a person is very possible but your heart needs to be in the right place.
